Canadas Flag : Canada 150: WAC Bennett built BC's modern economy, forged a political dynasty
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Canada, we are counting until Canada Day with profiles of 150 Britons. Its megaprojects transformed British Columbia from a fragmented frontier to a $ 200 billion integrated economic giant a year. The twenty-second minister of the province was a populist visionary. Campaigning on a cunning populist platform of fiscal restraint, fervent free enterprise, antisocialist zeal, Western chauvinism and unrepentant repentance of Ottawa, developed a chameleon-like capacity to adapt policy to both, and sometimes both sides of any contentious issue. It became the longest premier serving in B.C. history. The Social Credit remained undefeated for 20 years. Bennett - iconic journalist Bruce Hutchison described his "fixed neon smile, the seller's security, the ruthless rush of speech" as
